Rev. Michael S. Danko, 83 years old, of Nixa, Mo., formerly of Beatrice, died Saturday morning, February 27, 2010. He was born June 26, 1926 in Glen Lyon, Pa. to the late Michael J. and Julia Loyek Danko. He attended St. Mary's College, Orchard Lake, Mich. and was ordained May 31, 1952. He received his Masters of Arts at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. in 1957. Father Danko served as Asst. Pastor in Beatrice, David City and Dwight; as Superintendent of Assumption School; as Pastor in Davey, Abie, Linwood, and Brainard. He also served on the faculty at Pius X High School, Lincoln; Aquinas High School, David City and as Dean of Fairbury Deanery. After serving as Pastor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beatrice for 26 years, he retired in 1993 and lived with his sister in Nixa, Mo. He filled-in for many parishes in the Springfield Diocese for several years.

Survivors include sister, Gay Kovak of Aurora, Mo.; two nephews, Michael Kovak of Atlanta, Ga., Stephen Kovak of Nixa, Mo.; one niece, Donna Gay Wrinkle of Aurora, Mo.; five great nieces and two great nephews who loved their "Ga Ga".

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Beatrice with Most Reverend Fabian Bruskewitz, Bishop of Lincoln, Celebrant. Burial will be at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Viewing will be at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday. A scriptural rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are established to the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Lincoln, supporting Retired Priests and Catholic Schools, PO Box 80328, Lincoln, NE 68501. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
